The Future of Community Philanthropy project was launched in the spring of 2004. Impetus for the research came from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and the Ford Foundation, who asked Blueprint Research & Design, Inc. and the Monitor Institute to provide U.S. community foundations with some advance warning about the world to come.
The overarching project situates community foundations within the larger field of community philanthropy globally. Our first products, developed in late 2005, focused on the future of U.S. community foundations. Throughout 2006, we will continue our research, share our findings through conference presentations and selected community foundation workshops, publish periodic briefings and updates about emerging issues, and begin inquiry into the planned international phase of the project.
Our findings from the first phase of the project are captured in the report, On the Brink of New Promise: The Future of U.S. Community Foundations. Updates and additional research are ongoing, and will be posted on this website as they are completed.
